Greenland Hills United Methodist Church
commissioned a master planning and programming
exercise to address the changing needs of the
community they serve. Their priority was to expand
their existing space in a manner that would respect
the scale of the neighborhood and provide a sense
of openness to their neighbors. There was also
a desire to keep the existing sanctuary as strong
element in any solution.
A phased construction approach was ultimately
chosen and a scheme was developed that allowed
for flexibility to accommodate future growth. Phase
one consists of a one story multipurpose space and
4 preschool classrooms on the end end, as well
as development of the heavily treed public yard/
garden space. phase 2 will create a similar scaled
classroom wing to the west, leaving the sanctuary
as the featured foreground structure.
