Vickery Meadow Branch Library
As part of the larger 8255 Lofts Mixed-Use project,
Vickery Meadow Branch Library will become
an integral component in the Vickery Meadow
community. The library will bring needed vitality,
and provide spaces for classes and community
gatherings. The design harkens back to formal
Classical libraries, with a high-volume main reading
hall and a perimeter mezzanine, allowing access
to books along the exterior walls. The main stair
doubles as a gathering area for children, envisioned
to be utilized for group readings. The volume around
the information desk, which also contains the checkout
stations, is clad in chalk board panels, enabling
graphics to be changed.
In keeping with the large number of languages
spoken in this neighborhood, the main graphics of
the exterior sign and text on the interior chalkboards
will be written in many languages. The exterior is
clad in a green terracotta panel. This brings attention
to the library volume and provides a contrast to the
surrounding retail and residential components of
the development.
